The Beverly Fund is a national nonprofit for lung cancer. Our focus is awareness, education, early detection, and being a support network and information resource for cancer patients and their loved ones.
Our Mission
Here at the Beverly Fund, our mission is to find a cure for lung cancer and provide aid in research that will improve the quality of life of those suffering with lung cancer and lung disease. We want to achieve this by raising awareness on the effects and causes of lung cancer nationwide. We want to grow as a support network for patients and people who have been affected by this disease. We want to do for lung cancer what the Susan G. Komen Foundation has done and continues to do for breast cancer.

History:
We were incorporated in September 2006. Our founder was inspired after the loss of her mother who lost her battle with lung cancer in January 2006.
The Beverly Fund is the sole creation of one person's dream to make a difference in the lives of millions. Tracy Pierandozzi Sestili's close relationship with her mother who died of small cell carcinoma in January 2006, is the primary reason for the existence of The Beverly Fund. A promise made to a mother from her daughter.
From our Founder:"I decided to start this foundation because when I was researching lung cancer a couple of years ago, I couldn’t find everything I needed to know in one place. The information was spread out and most of it was written in medical-ese, which made it difficult to understand unless you were a doctor. I was under-informed. I wasn’t made aware of available free programs such as Road to Recovery or Look Good, Feel Good that some cancer foundations offer. I didn’t know the right questions to ask. One focus of The Beverly Fund’s website is to be the easy-to-understand, central source for lung cancer information.
When I realized that lung cancer was the #1 cancer killer in America, I knew I had to get involved and do something to help mitigate what was becoming an epidemic. The 5-year survival rate is less than 15%, and it has barely improved in the past 50 years. Early detection is essential to improving survival rates, so one of the primary missions of The Beverly Fund is to increase overall awareness and educate about early detection. At The Beverly Fund, we are big advocates for spreading the word about Lung Cancer Awareness Month in November. In November 2007, we joined forces with the American Cancer Society by giving away coffee sleeves and brown paper bags to local merchants as part of our Remember November™ campaign. Everyone knows that October is breast cancer awareness month, but did you know that November is lung cancer awareness month? Did you know that the official color for lung cancer awareness is “clear”?
Smoking cessation is another critical factor in reducing incidents of lung cancer. That is why we are also involved with tobacco initiatives such as the Great American Smokeout, I Care and I Count (formerly Teens Kick Ash), and lobbying Capitol Hill for better tobacco laws.
