JustHealth's mission is to work to build a just healthcare system in the U.S. and protect both consumers and providers of healthcare from dangerous, deceptive, unfair and unlawful practices.

JustHealth works to fulfill its mission by: (1) Collecting and disseminating accurate information about the current healthcare system; (2) Drafting and supporting measures that protect consumers and providers of healthcare from dangerous, deceptive, unfair and unlawful practices; (3) Being an advocate for healthcare justice - Now - in every available forum.

JustHealth has: assisted California policymakers in developing The California Insurance Fair Claims Practices Regulations; filed the Managed Care/Health Insurer Honesty & Accountability Act; developed an effective Hotline to respond to individual complaints; has worked extensively with print and television journalists; filed Amicus Briefs in State and Federal Courts in support of consumer rights; and acted as an organizational plaintiff in cases affecting the rights of large numbers of healthcare consumers and providers.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, California Attorney General, California Department of Consumer Affairs, MediCal, American Medical Association, California Medical Association, many other professional organizations, and numerous state and national media organizations send JustHealth a steady stream of referrals. In addition, the Medical Board of California has designated JustHealth as the entity whose jurisdiction encompasses assisting consumers with problems they have with hospital and other medical billings and other issues, and regularly refers consumers to JustHealth.

JustHealth is uniquely positioned to draw on its experience and expertise in using a multitude of successful strategies (e.g., policy and media advocacy, Hotline assistance, litigation, regulation, and legislation, as well as direct advocacy) to move us towards the fundamental changes that will be necessary to create a just healthcare system.

History:
Founded in 1995 and incorporated in 1996 as the California Consumer Health Care Council, JustHealth is dedicated to building a just health care system. In its twelve-year history, JustHealth has provided assistance to thousands of individuals and organizations that have faced injustice in the health care system.

Each year, with no advertising program, JustHealth receives an increasing number of referrals, hotline calls, and web-based requests for assistance from throughout California and across the U.S.

JustHealth’s burgeoning client list itself is further evidence of the nightmare that our health care system has become.
