Camp Fire USA builds caring, confident youth and future leaders in our communities. Our vision is to stop the generational cycle of illiteracy, poverty and violent crimes that plague many youth of disadvantaged families. It is our goal to build strong alliances with at-risk youth in order to facilitate their development of the personal and social competencies needed to effectively participate and achieve success.

Description:
Camp Fire USA's Kids With Dreams and Teens In Action Programs provide academic assistance and interactive life enrichment activities, which teach our youth about respect, appreciating cultures and differences, setting and achieving goals, self-esteem and much more. Our programs annually serves approximately 200 unduplicated youth, ages 5-18 years old. Along with the educational and valuable workshops we carry out, our youth also participate in fun games, field trips and other recreational activities. Volunteers play a vital role at our site through tutoring, mentoring and giving our youth caring attention, all while building new friendships, increasing social awareness, acquiring new job skills and having fun! Our general after school hours are Monday through Friday, 3pm-6pm, and during the summer from 12pm-6pm.

History:
Camp Fire USA is a national organization that began in 1910. Here in the East Bay, the Oakland East Bay Council began the Kids With Dreams Youth Development Program back in 1991, and has been committed to serving the inner-city boys and girls of West Oakland ever since. We recently created Teens In Action for youth ages 12-18 in order to give the teens in our program the opportunity to take ownership of the program. We also encourage leadership among our teens by giving them the opportunity to lead younger youth in sports, life enrichment activities, and in homework assistance.
