CACEP ~ Central American Children's Educational Projects We have created a program to benefit children in Central America who are forced out of school and into the workforce. This project is to help prevent child abuse, illiteracy and will support the academic goals through partial or full time scholarship and basic school supplies.

Description:
Central American Children’s Educational Projects is focused on Educational opportunities for school aged children. Our projects get vitally needed monies, school supplies to Central American schools and families with school aged children.

In this globally connected computer age we know that education is the vital link to a better life; a chance to a better life and opportunities without at least a basic education children become trapped in a life of poverty and targets of many types of oppression.

CACEP has developed that opportunity for you to come aboard and be a part of building up children’s self-esteem, by providing what is needed to stay in school, the child learns to stay focused in school and view life that have healthy choices.
Our goal is to work within the realm of Educational opts for children in Central Am.
Education is not work but defined as learning from:
*Fun learning environments -
*Outings & playing
*Text reading and testing
*As well as lectures from teachers
We include Art, Music, film, Sports as well as reading, writing and arithmetic to be education. Where instruction is given and the student receives, and applies this to his or her immediate life as well as in the future this is considered successful educational opportunity whether in a classroom or under a tree.
A child should not have to choose between working to support their families and growing up and getting an Education. We want to give light to their eyes and hope to the heart of every family and child for a better opportunity.

History:
For over Eight years our Founder Marlin Wilson Darby herself a Nicaraguan, funded these projects out of concern and saved personal income. She has set a standard for this project ~ self first, love to the children, gifts of supplies and funds to families to help in paying for education. First She gave of herself and her personal resources and did not despise her small beginning. Her concern for the deepening social crisis in the world’s poorest communities and for the well being of children who lack a safe home and access to proper health care and an education embolden her to give and serve.

The Chance to Learn Program began its journey in 1998 when Hurricane Mitch wiped out the Coast of Nicaragua; considered one of the worst natural disasters to hit Central American; this event is comparable to the recent Hurricane Katrina hitting New Orleans. Many people 8 years later are still displaced.
Our founder, Marlin Wilson Darby filled duffel bags full of supplies and traveled to the affected regions bringing them to the suffering displaced people of the region. She soon found out that even though many organizations were operating there, there were many people not served. Familiar with her people she found who needed to be helped. Returning to her past home in Managua, the Capital of Nicaragua she saw that there was much to do, to help and that a one-time trip would not suffice. She returned to San Francisco with a life project in her heart and continued to send and take supplies to the Barrio schools.
