The mission of Project Access is to assist families and seniors of affordable housing to achieve self-sufficiency through access to onsite education, health and social services. The seniors and families served by Project Access have incomes at or below 60% of the area median; and a substantial number are often with incomes below $15,000 per year.

Description:
Project Access addresses the critical challenges faced by "working-poor" individuals and families living in affordable housing communities by bringing the services to where they live - in their "backyards," which removes often-cited obstacles to services, such as lack of transportation, language barriers and the need for child care. Project Access creates opportunities that empower disadvantaged and underserved individuals, families and seniors to achieve greater self-sufficiency, independence, and success.

History:
Founded in 1999, Project Access - a nonprofit organization - assists individuals and families living in affordable apartment communities to achieve self-sufficiency through access to onsite education, health and social services. Project Access works with affordable housing developers and owners in a fee-for-service relationship to bring free services to the residents. Today, Project Access provides services in 22 affordable housing apartment communities at Family and/or Senior Resource Centers - with its start in southern California and a growing statewide expansion.
