College Track’s goal is to help motivated low-income high school students who have the desire but lack the resources and support to attain higher education. CT students are individuals who aspire to a college education, but do not have the means or the guidance to attain it.

Description:
Through daily contact with students, CT provides information, programs and services to enhance the students’ opportunities to participate fully in experiences that facilitate responsible life choices, awareness of self and community, and building of a foundation for future learning.

We work closely with school districts, teachers, and administrators to create the most effective support system. Students who are accepted into College Track participate in the following programs:
• Academic Affairs: Provides students with tutoring, small-group academic workshops in all subject areas, SAT and ACT preparation, and college counseling.
• Student Life: Enables students to gain leadership skills, be involved in extracurricular activities, participate in cultural and artistic events, and engage in community service.
• College Affairs: Organizes college tours and informational sessions with college admission representatives, provides scholarships and oversees financial aid packages, and provides continued support while our students attend college.

We also provide transportation to and from centers, paid summer internship placement with companies in the Bay Area, our own academic summer institute for incoming ninth-grade students, college tours, a summer backpacking trip, and assistance to participate in summer camps and study abroad programs.

History:
In 1994, the founders of College Track were serving as volunteer college counselors at a public high school serving low-income students. They discovered that students who were interested in being
the first members of their families to go to college were getting little or no guidance about how to get there. The founders decided to work with students who see education as their path to achievement and
to create a merit-based program that incorporated community service and leadership training along with academic rigor. In 1997, College Track started with a cohort of 25 students in one high school in
the Sequoia Union High School District. By 2001, our program model had demonstrated such success and had gained such a solid reputation that College Track was brought to the Oakland Unified School District. Today, College Track serves ~380 high school and college students through our centers in East Palo Alto and Downtown Oakland, and is launching our San Francisco Center in spring of 2007.
