Last updated on June 9, 2008

The Mission of Josie's Place is to provide a safe and caring environment that supports children, teens and their families in the San Francisco Bay Area who are grieving a death.
We provide education, compassion and understanding to participants as they integrate grief into their lives at their own pace.

Description:
Josie's Place provides group support to children and teens who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling, close relative or friend.
Group activities include: Drawing, writing, art, music, discussion and play.
Separate group sessions are held at the same time for adult family members.
Our support groups provide a safe environment for shared expression of feelings about the loss of a loved one.
Groups meet twice a month in the early evening.
Our program if offered free of charge and is open to youth ages 6-18.

History:
Three and a half years ago a founding group of dedicated volunteers and supporters in the San Francisco area researched, developed and created a bereaved youth program modeled after the Dougy Center, a program of the National Center for Grieving Children and Families in Portland, Oregon.
Josie's Place became a reality in May of 2007, when the first Youth and Families groups began in San Francisco' Sunset District.
Beginning in the Fall 2008 Josie's Place will begin children's groups within the San Francisco Unified School District.
