We feel the root cause of the major environmental and social crises of our time is a worldview that is centered around consumption and financial gain with little regard for the calamitous effects we are having on our habitat and on each other. By spreading awareness to the modern world and giving indigenous groups in the Amazon rainforest a voice, we hope to cultivate a deeper respect for Life, the earth, and each other. Every individual can play their part to help bring forth an environmentally sustainable, spiritually fulfilling, socially just human presence on this planet.
History:
The Pachamama Alliance is a U.S. based not-for-profit organization that was born out of a relationship developed between a group of people from the modern world and the leaders of remote indigenous groups in the Amazon region of Ecuador. This relationship was actually initiated by the indigenous elders and shamans themselves who, out of their deep concern for the growing threat to their ancient way of life, and their recognition that the roots of this threat lay far beyond their rainforest home, actively sought the partnership of committed individuals living in the modern world. While preventing deforestation in the south and giving the Achuar tribe of the Amazon a voice, the Pachamama Alliance spreads awareness in the north. The organization conducts symposiums that alert people about the environmental and social issues humanity faces and provides concrete ways to move ourselves in a new, restorative direction.
