The University of California Berkeley SAGE (Student Achievement Guided by Experience) Scholars Program empowers students from poverty and low income backgrounds by providing professional training and real-world experience through internships, education, business and career development and life coaching.

Our vision is to provide a diverse, educated and outstanding leadership pool.

Description:
Students admitted into the SAGE Scholars Program gain exceptional skills for their chosen careers through a rigorous professional development course at the Haas School of Business. We work with undergraduate students of all backgrounds and majors. SAGE Scholars are well prepared to obtain competitive internships and career positions from sponsoring companies. SAGE Scholars also mentor high school students from the same socioeconomic backgrounds. The structured mentoring program provides students with financial literacy education, knowledge of career opportunities, strong leadership and communication skills and assistance in developing a plan to achieve their academic goals.

History:
The University of California Berkeley SAGE Scholars Program started in 1999 from start up funding from the UC Office of the President. As a pilot program on the Berkeley campus, the SAGE Scholars Program was envisioned to be part of every UC campus. Due to budget cuts, the UC Berkeley SAGE Scholars Program is now self funded and receives funding from corporations, foundations and individual donations.
