Our purpose is to investigate how exposures in our daily lives increase the risk of cancer, reduce harmful environmental conditions and educate communities on healthy lifestyle choices. Together we search for the cause, seek solutions, and strive for healthy and sustainable communities.
Description:
This year's annual gala will feature delectable organic cuisine prepared by the best chefs in the region in partnership with Marin organic farmers. We will also be hosting an organic wine tasting with local organic vineyards, and a green silent auction. Sarah Clark of Alice Radio will once again be our Program Host, and guests will be entertained under the night sky by the music of the Phat Barbies. We anticipate needing two shifts of about 15-20 volunteers each-- one from 6 - 9pm and one from 9pm to midnight. Volunteers are welcome to stay and enjoy the event when they are not working. Duties include: bussers, auction assistants and chef assistants.
History:
The Marin Cancer Project was formed in April '02. In November of 2002, having mobilized over 2,000 volunteers, the Marin Cancer Project went door-to-door surveying about 65,000 households in one day and raising $150,000 needed to fund a mapping of the cancer rates in each Marin city and town. Since then, we have completed two years of in-depth research around the Peer Cities and Counties Project and are close to completion of the Cancer Maps. We launched the Teens for Safe Cosmetics Campaign, educate around precautionary lifestyle practices, and launched the Search for the Cause Necklace as a fundraising and awareness builder.. We have formed alliances and built coalitions with other NPO's, local organizations, businesses, political leaders, scientists, medical doctors, academic institutions and most importantly people.
