The mission of KIPP Bayview Academy is to develop in the students of Southeastern San Francisco the knowledge, critical thinking skills and character traits needed to succeed in top quality high schools and colleges, and to lead deliberate and productive lives.

Description:
With longer school days, committed parents, students and teachers, KIPP Bayview Academy provides a safe, highly structured and academically rigorous college-preparatory middle school for this community. And as a public school, it is done at no cost to the families it serves.

Our goal is to close the achievement gap and to have every one of our students go to college. We believe that all students can learn, and also that:

There are no shortcuts.
Success is built through desire, discipline, and dedication.
The path to success is education.
KIPP Bayview provides a structured school environment that focuses the students on learning. By explaining why our teachers want them to listen and learn - so they can go to college, our students respond. Our students know that KIPP Bayview Academy is putting them on the path to college.

History:
KIPP Bayview Academy is a public middle school that opened in July 2003 with 80 fifth graders. In 2004-2005, we had 160 students in the fifth and sixth grades. The school added one grade each year and now serves appx. 250 fifth through eighth grade students.

The school was founded by principal Molly Wood, who received her undergraduate degree along with a Masters in Business Admininstration and a Masters in Education from Stanford. With the help of three teachers and an office manager, KIPP Bayview Academy served an initial fifth grade class of 80 students. In its second year, the staff and student body doubled. In the 2005-2006 school year, the school served 210 students in grades 5-7. The staff has grown to just under 30 teachers and the numbers keep growing.
