CCOF Foundation In 2001, the CCOF Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, was created to expand CCOF's education and outreach activities. The mission of the CCOF Foundation is to protect the environment and enhance human health by promoting the production and consumption of nutritious organic food. The CCOF Foundation's programs, support organic farmers in conserving biodiversity, accelerate the transition to organic agriculture, and educate consumers about the benefits of organic food and farming.
Description:
CCOF promotes and supports organic food and agriculture through a premier organic certification program, trade support, producer and consumer education and political advocacy. From apples to zucchini, from almonds to wine, CCOF is involved in every facet of organics, with over 750 different organic crops and products, including livestock, processed products and services. CCOF provides certification services to all stages of the organic food chain from farms to processors, restaurants and retailers. CCOF certifies to the USDA National Organic Program standards and CCOF international standards.
History:
CCOF was founded in 1973 as a mutual assistance and certification organization for organic farmers and was one the first organizations to perform organic certification in North America. Since then, the CCOF seal has been your assurance of certification with integrity. Today, CCOF maintains one of the most consumer recognized and trusted seals in the organic marketplace. CCOF remains one of the oldest and largest organic certification and trade associations in North America, with more than 1,600 members throughout the farm and processing community. CCOF has helped found other sister organizations dedicated to the continued promotion of organics. In 1990, CCOF founded the Organic Farming Research Foundation (OFRF) to fund research related to organic farming practices. In 1997, CCOF helped found the Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI) to research and distribute information about materials allowed and prohibited for use in organic production.
