The Youth Guidance Center Improvement Committee seeks to provide high quality/high standard educational, job readiness skills and job placement opportunities that inform and empower young people touched by the juvenile justice system

Description:
The YGCIC provided educational and job preparedness skills training to youth "in-risk" and engaged with the SF Juvenile Justice system. Through a very innovative service delivery strategy, students can obtain their GED through the Early Morning Studies Academy, Job Readiness and basic computer literacy through the FOCUS program, entrepreneurship training through our youth directed business Juvy Java, or subsidized early work exposure through the New Directions Employment Program. Annually, the YGCIC received nearly 1000 referrals and successfully completes and places over 400 youth per year into jobs and higher education.

History:
The YGCIC is a 501 (c) 3 not for profit corporation established nearly 25 years ago by Superior Court Judges who saw a need to provide vocational education services and resources to youth detained at the County's long term facility - Log Cabin Ranch. Over the years, the program has evolved to serve youth "in-risk" as well as those who have been touched throughout the system. Proudly, this program graduates the greatest number of the County's alternative school students, supports a youth directed business and places over 400 youth per year into early work experiences.
