Founded in 1980, the mission of the The Playwrights' Center of San Francisco is to encourage and develop local playwrights and promote script writing, audience development, and related arts.
Description:
The Playwrights' Center offers weekly programs to the SF bay area theatre community, including staged readings (rehearsed, using paid actors and directors), developmental readings (also with paid actors), Scene Night workshops for works in progress, annual Sheherezade 10-minute play festival, and other writing and theatre-related educational activities. The Center's successful Scene Night workshop model has been replicated in the South Bay.
History:
Founded in 1980, the Playwrights' Center of San Francisco has produced over 1,000 staged readings, scene workshops and other educational events. It has evolved into a strong, community based organization dedicated to supporting new theatrical work.
