CouchSurfing seeks to internationally network people and places, create educational exchanges, raise collective consciousness, spread tolerance and facilitate cultural understanding.
Description:
CouchSurfing provides a free service that connects travelers with people who wish to host travelers. Hosting means meeting travelers and offering them information and local expertise. We also encourage hosts to invite travelers to stay over night in their homes. Our travelers and hosts thereby achieve our mission of cultural exchange, participate in volunteer activities, and often make lasting friends. We currently have over 300,000 members in over 200 countries.
History:
CouchSurfing was founded in 2004. It has since grown to over 300,000 members internationally with thousands more signing up each day. We have always been free to use, and we pay our bills with voluntary member contributions. We depend on a staff of hundreds of volunteers in many countries to maintain our free service and build our community.
