Community United Against Violence is an anti-oppression, multicultural agency whose mission is to prevent and respond to violence against and within our diverse lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning communities. We work to accomplish this mission through support services, advocacy, education and organizing.

Description:
The Speakers Bureau at CUAV provides LGBT speakers who go out into the community to do presentations on queer issues, in an effort to dispel myths and stereotypes about our diverse communities. In the San Francisco Unified School District we approved from 4th through 12th grade, as part of SFUSD's Health and Family Life Curriculum. In addition to SFUSD classroom presentations, we also provide presentations for colleges and universities, and workshops/sensitivity trainings to address homophobia and transphobia for agencies and other community based organizations.

History:
CUAV was formed in 1979 in response to the murders of Supervisor Harvey Milk and Mayor George Moscone. Since then, we have expanded our services to include support for survivors of hate violence and domestic violence. We also have a 24 hour crisis lone (415) 333-HELP.
