Our mission is to work together through biotechnology to inspire, educate, and prepare students and teachers for the future.

Inspire students. Support educators. Prepare for the future.

Description:
We are a consortium of local science education outreach partnerships based in counties surrounding the Bay Area. We provide free professional development to teachers around biotechnology hands-on curricula then provide these teachers with support in equipment, supplies, reagents and in-classroom technical assistance. We believe the investment in the training of teachers will exponentially reach more students. Exciting the students with hands-on biotechnology will inspire pursuit of higher education, expose them to the diverse careers possible in science and health sectors and create a more scientific literate citizenry.

History:
20 years ago, Bay Area high school science teachers learning about hands-on biotech at a workshop spawned the idea and formed the local partnerships within BABEC in order to bring the new exciting field of biotechnology to their colleagues and students. Years later, BABEC was formed as an independent non-profit arising from the needs of the local biotech education partnerships to network and share resources.
