The YMCA of the Mid-Peninsula, based on the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility, improves life through experiences enriching spirit, mind and body for all.

Description:
The Lewis and Joan Platt East Palo Alto Family YMCA is a non-profit organization that is committed to strengthening and enriching the development of youth, adults, families and communities of all ages, ethnicities, religions and economic backgrounds. Health and wellness, aquatics, camp, youth and adult sports, teen activities, family programs and volunteer opportunities are just some of the ways to get involved. Part of a worldwide movement in more than 130 countries, we put values into practice through programs and activities that help people grow personally, develop skills, clarify values, improve personal relationships, appreciate diversity, develop leadership and have fun.

History:
Since 1990, the East Palo Alto Family YMCA has contributed to the lives of boys and girls, men and women of all ages, ethnicities, religions and economic backgrounds. After initially offering limited programs in the community, the YMCA of the Mid-Peninsula formed a partnership with the City of East Palo Alto in 1997, when the City built the Bell Street Park Pool and asked the YMCA to operate a full range of aquatics programs. In 2000, the City and YMCA then entered into a lease agreement to provide a site at Bell Street Park for a new full-service YMCA. The YMCA began raising the $13 million Capital Campaign funds needed to build the new facility and to create a $4 million endowment fund. Through the generous contributions of more than 700 donors, the Lewis and Joan Platt East Palo Alto Family YMCA opened its doors to the community February 10, 2007.
