The Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) department's mission is to ensure equity and access to the arts for all students in the San Francisco Unified School District during the curricular school day.
Description:
Young at Art, a festival coordinated by the Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) department, is a 9 day festival held annually at the de Young Museum inside Golden Gate Park. Each spring (May 17th-25th for 2008), the Young at Art festival showcases the artistic talents of all students living in or attending San Francisco schools as well as community arts programs.
History:
For the 22nd consecutive year, Young at Art (formerly the San Francisco Youth Arts Festival) has served as a platform for thousands of students. The festival has gone through a number of names such as Golden Gateway to the Arts and the Youth Arts Festival. The event has also been hosted by venues such as Golden Gate Park, the de Young Museum, and Zeum/Yerba Buena Gardens.
