"To build a more positive, effective and resilient community through the development of our youth.” Our goals include providing leadership development, outdoor recreation and experiential education programs to public, nonprofit and private agencies meeting youth, recreation and human service needs.
Description:
PLI offers cutting edge programs and services designed to connect groups in ways that engage participants in their own learning and inspires greater retention and application. Like a “chemical reaction”, there needs to be a certain input of energy to start things working; a person needs that same input to start thinking, performing and learning. Our programs provide that energy in unique ways that can impact the agencies we work with. The PLI works with any agency or organization to customize programs meeting a groups' specific goals.
History:
PLI is an umbrella organization for five community programs promoting learn-by-doing experiences using challenge, the outdoors, and play as teaching tools for self-esteem, team-work, leadership, and life skills. Based in San Francisco , PLI is a special project of San Francisco State University 's Recreation and Leisure Studies Department, administered as a not-for-profit affiliate of the University. PLI was established in 1980 with the first programs occurring at the Fort Miley Adventure Ropes Course. PLI currently serves over 10,000 participants annually in its programs, including youth development programs, schools and after-school programs, community-based organizations, non-profits, private and corporate groups.
