Our mission is to help academically capable and motivated children-in-need to meet their full potential and become men and women for others by providing value-centered, family-like homes, opportunities and education through college.

Description:
The middle school children we target for our program come from home or community environments where they confront instability, poverty, broken families, and oftentimes violence. Many of our young people come from foster homes or single parent families with limited economic means, and several come from households with a history of mental illness, substance abuse, and/or child abuse and neglect. All of the children at BHGH are presented with daily challenges in their communities that make it difficult for them to achieve academically. As a result, many are growing up without the experiences necessary for healthy development and the benefits associated with it, such as family and community investment and responsibility.
BHGH works closely with other community-based organizations, social service entities, and school personnel to identify those children between the ages of 9-14 who are lacking in the basic supports and skills necessary for healthy development. Through the provision of residential services over a five to seven year period, we strive to supplement their lives with the building blocks that will help them create positive successful futures for themselves--including academic skills, social competency skills, healthy self-esteem, role modeling, and exposure to new options and possibilities. We offer the children in our care services, 24-hours a day, 365 days a year--from the time they come to live with us until they graduate high school.

History:
Our BHGH-SF residential home was founded in 2000 to serve children in the nine county San Francisco bay area. The goal of BHGH-SF is to work with young people before they become statistics--to provide them with a safe, nurturing home environment, and access to a quality education through college.
