The Chitresh Das Dance Company & Chhandam School of Kathak's (CDDC/Chhandam)mission is to produce exemplary traditional, innovative and collaborative works of North Indian classical Kathak dance, train future generations and build local, national and international community support for the Kathak tradition.
Description:
CDDC/Chhandam's programs include world class performances and touring of Pandit Chitresh Das and CDDC; the Chhandam School of Kathak - the largest Indian classical institution in North America with branches in the SF Bay Area, Los Angeles, Boston, Ottawa and Toronto, Canada, Tokyo, Japan and in Calcutta, India; and arts as service to society with the focus being empowering and changing the lives of children from the red light district in India through dance, as well as arts education programs reaching over 6,000 children in the US annually.
History:
Founded in 1980, CDDC/Chhandam was founded and directed by internationally renowned Kathak maestro, Pandit Chitresh Das.
