Friends of the Earth defends the environment and champions a healthy and just world.

Description:
Friends of the Earth (FoE) is led by Brent Blackwelder, an environmental advocate for over 40 years. Its dedicated staff fight to protect the rights of all people to live in a safe and healthy environment, both at home or in countries around the world. Our campaigns demonstrate our belief that the fight for justice and the movement to protect the health of the planet are part of the same struggle.

History:
Over the last 39 years, Friends of the Earth, its members and its activists have:
•been the first to raise the alarm and draw attention to new environmental problems;
•stopped over 150 destructive dams and water projects worldwide;
•banned international whaling;
•pressed and won landmark regulations of strip mines and oil tankers;
•reformed the World Bank to address environmental and human rights concerns; and
•eliminated billions in taxpayer subsidies to corporate polluters.
