MISSION

To conserve natural resources, habitat and wildlife by helping to establish, promote and support interaction between artists, educators and scientists. We firmly believe that these coalitions are essential to the success of conservation. Multi-faceted problems require multi-faceted solutions.

Description:
Our activities have centered on raising and providing funds for organizations, institutions and individual in Africa, mainly Kenya and Zimbabwe, that match our mission to promote conservation. We have for the past three years paid school fees for upwards of 50 students per year to enable them to complete their education. We also continue to offer wages to artists whose work is directly focused on conservation education. This funding is given to a group in Zimbabwe's rural area. We function as fiscal for Iganyana Arts & Crafts located in a small town and rural area in western Zimbabwe for their U.S. customers. Iganyana Arts project is sponsored by Painted Dog Conservation, a charitable entity registered in Zimbabwe that includes a number of community development and educational arms.

History:
Africa Matters was incorporated in California in 2002, and is tax exempt both in the state and federal government. A small group of dedicated Board Members works to raise funds and assist the Director who resides the majority of the year in Africa. Past efforts have provided need goods and computers for Wildlife Clubs of Kenya's regional hostels, sponsor students at 3 schools in Zimbabwe, and support Ingonyama Dance and Drama Group. Just prior to finalizing the incorporation, the Director created ART SAFARI which saw 7 American artists spend one month touring and visiting educators, artists, conservationist in Zimbabwe. The art work produced as a result of this trip was sold and auctioned with proceeds then donated to the various places, organizations and individuals that were visited during the month of travel.
