Motivated by a belief in the dignity and worth of each person, Good Shepherd Gracenter is committed to helping women who seek recovery from drug and alcohol addiction.

Through a spirituality based on the 12-Steps and treatment of the whole person, we commit ourselves to help each woman grow in wholeness and sobriety by affirming and strengthening her relationship with God, self and others.

Description:
Owned and operated by the Sisters of the Good Shepherd, Gracenter is a 6 month residential treatment program for women ages eighteen to thirty-five seeking recovery from addiction.

During the first three months of treatment, our residents take classes involving the physical and psychological aspects of substance abuse. They also participate in classes on co-dependency, anger management, wellness and nutrition, relapse prevention, cognitive behavioral skills and communication skills.

During the second phase our women seek employment and learn how to deal with everyday stresses in a safe supportive residential setting. At the same time they build a bank account to allow for greater independence upon completion of the program.

As a way to stay in touch and find support as they move forward in their recovery, we provide three months of weekly aftercare for our graduates.

Gracenter is a thirteen bed, 501c3, State Licensed recovery program. Preference is given to residents of San Francisco regardless of their ability to pay. Women with insurance are accepted, but admission is based on determination to succeed with recovery rather than ability to pay. A sliding scale fee is available.

History:
The Good Shepherd Sisters have been providing services to young women in San Francisco for over 75 years. They began their service in the Bay Area by opening the University Mound School, a residential facility for court-referred young women.

Gracenter was opened in 1986 and to date we have helped hundreds of women regain a belief in themselves.
