San Francisco Museum And Historical Society

The mission of the San Francisco Museum and Historical Society is to preserve, interpret, and present the cultural heritage of San Francisco and the Bay Area.

Description:
The San Francisco Museum and Historical Society seeks to preserve and present the history of the city and the Bay Area through an array of public programs and through the development of a new museum at the Old Mint. Our programs include history talks, panel discussions, walking tours, behind-the-scenes tours, a scholarly publication, and exhibits. We are also engaged in the $95 million project to build a new museum at the Old Mint, a National Historic Landmark located at 5th and Mission Streets.

History:
The San Francisco Museum and Historical Society is a 8-year-old institution, the result of a merger between the Museum of the City of San Francisco and the San Francisco Historical Society. Both institutions had a strong membership and volunteer base, and that grass-roots support continues.
