League of Women Voters of San Francisco

The League of Women Voters, a non-partisan political organization, encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.

Description:
We work on voter education during every election. Our League concentrates on San Francisco ballot measures and candidates. We are non-partisan so we never support candidates and we present both side of every ballot measures. On our advocacy side, we do take positions on ballot measures based on previous positions that our local, the California or the National League have already set. We also present forums on important issues of the time, for example, health care and voting integrity and transparency.

History:
We have been in existence for 90 years. The League evolved from the Women's Suffrage Movement in order to encourage women to vote. In 1974, men were welcomed as members.
