Cantare Con Vivo

Cantare Con Vivo (“To Sing With Life”) is a community based non-profit performing arts organization dedicated to making the finest in choral music affordable and accessible to audiences throughout the Bay Area with a primary focus in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties.

Description:
Each year Cantare’s 110-voice symphonic Chorale and its 24-voice Chamber Ensemble offer six to eight concerts in Oakland, Berkeley and Walnut Creek. In June 2008 the Cantare Chorale toured in Vienna, Prague and Budapest. The highlight of the tour was a a benefit concert sponsored by the United States Ambassador at the Bratislava Cultural Festival. Cantare is committed to music as a force for positive social change and community building. In 2009-2010 we will celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Cantare’saward-winning Music Education and Outreach Program, aka Cantare Children’s Choirs of Oakland, that began in 1999 working with 40 third – fifth graders and now serves more than 1,000 K – 12 inner city Oakland public school students each week. There are many reputable music education programs and institutions in the Bay Area. Cantare takes great pride in the fact that it is one of the few that offers the weekly gift of music to under-served children and youth completely free-of-charge.

History:
Founded in 1987 Cantare Con Vivo is emerging as a highly respected musical arts organization that is making an important contribution to improving and enhancing both quality music education as well academic excellence in the Oakland public schools. Cantare grer successfully between 2005 - 2008 without incurring a deficit. In 2008 the Board committed to recruiting a professional Executive Director. The new ED was hired in April 2008 to lead and manage Cantare’s continued growth, with special emphasis on increasing foundation and corporate support, stewardship of donors as well as audience development, marketing and media relations. In June 2008 the new ED helped secure a $ 100,000 endowment gift in support of Cantare Children’s Choirs of Oakland. Our challenge is to successfully consolidate this growth in the current economic climate.
