Located on beautiful Golden Gate National Recreation Area, The mission of the Bay Area Discovery Museum is to engage, delight, and educate children through exploration of and connection with the local environment and the diverse communities that live here.

Description:
The Bay Area Discovery Museum is one of the nation’s leading children’s museums and a one-of-a-kind resource for more than 260,000 children, families, caregivers and teachers from throughout the Bay Area each year. The Museum integrates creative arts and natural sciences learning through participatory exhibitions and child-centered inquiry-based educational programming.

True to its mission, the Museum ensures that its array of interactive programs and exhibitions teaches children about the interrelationships between art and science and provides countless opportunities to identify, explore and celebrate the interconnectedness of the cultural and natural worlds.
The Museum provides thousands of Bay Area school children in preschool through grade 3 with opportunities to participate in hands-on interactive indoor and outdoor art and science activities both on the museum and at school and community sites. Its permanent exhibits -- Art Studios, Tot Spot, Lookout Cove, Bay Hall, and Wave Workshop -- highlight core science and environmental content, and serve as a springboard for interdisciplinary learning opportunities for children as young as newborns and up to age 8.

History:
Founded in 1987, the Museum quickly earned a national reputation as an innovator among children’s museums and became a unique educational institution and family destination in the Bay Area. In recent years – and as a result of the completion of the $19.5 million My Place By The Bay capital campaign that dramatically transformed its campus -- the Museum has gained an increasing presence in the Bay Area community.
