The mission of Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens.

Description:
Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco is one of the largest non-profit youth development organizations in San Francisco. For a low annual membership fee of $10, we provide fun, safe places for youth to learn and grow, under the supervision of professional, caring staff and dedicated volunteers who serve as role models, mentors, and friends. Our time-tested programs are based upon a youth development strategy that strives to empower our Club members.

Our drop-in center format allows Club members the freedom to choose activities that interest them most. Initially, most kids are attracted to our Clubs by fun activities in areas like fine arts and crafts, sports, games rooms, and computer centers. Once they enter the doors, however, they are also exposed to special programs designed to prepare them to be productive, responsible, and caring adults -programs such as homework assistance and tutoring, health education, life-skills development, mentoring, gang intervention/conflict resolution, career preparation, college preparation, community service and leadership building, and much more.

History:
Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco has been providing the kids of San Francisco with hope and opportunity since 1891, when the first San Francisco Boys Club opened its doors. A few years later the Columbia Park Boys Club opened on 7th Street, in SOMA. It was subsequently destroyed in the infamous 1906 earthquake and was relocated to Guerrero Street, in the Mission District, where it remains to this date. That same year our organization became one of the founding members of the Federation of Boys Clubs --now known as Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA.)

To this day, we remain a charter member, in good standing, of Boys & Girls Clubs of America and often pilot national BGCA youth development programs in our Clubs. We now operate eight Clubhouses in seven of San Francisco's most under-served neighborhoods, as well as a 2,000-acre summer residential camp located in the redwoods of Mendocino County and an academic enrichment summer day camp located in San Francisco.
