The Daly City Youth Health Center invests in our community through its youth and young adults by providing comprehensive, integrated services and programs that increase resiliency, encourage personal responsibility, and promote self-determination. We provide no/low cost, school-linked health and social support services to adolescents to enable them to become healthy, responsible, and productive adults.
Description:
The Center is a non-profit entity specializing in adolescent health services that include primary medical care, mental health counseling, health education, outreach, mentoring and job development. over 3,500 youth and young adults, ages 13-21, are served each year. Volunteers are very special to the Health Center and our clients. During the past year, adult volunteers contributed 1,100 hours, with youth volunteers contributing 250 hours. Some of the volunteer activities included one-on-one mentoring, painting our clinic, providing clerical assistance, and helping with our annual immunization clinic.
History:
The DCYHC was founded in 1990, with the opening of our Primary Care Clinic. The DCYHC has grown, changed and strengthened itself through proven collaboration and partnerships, innovative programming and flexible funding. In 1993 we began offering Mental Health Counseling Services and in 1997, launched Project PLAY (Peer Leadership Alternatives for Youth), our youth development and health education department. In 2001, we started ARC, the Youth and Family Accelerated Resource Center, and in 2002, Pathways for Success, a school-to-career transition program for low-income high school students was established.
