The Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy is a nonprofit membership organization created to preserve the Golden Gate National Parks, enhance the experiences of park visitors, and build a community dedicated to conserving the parks for the future.

Description:
The Golden Gate National Parks stretch 70 miles north and south of the Golden Gate Bridge, creating a 75,500 acre greenbelt along the Pacific Ocean. From Tomales Bay in the north to the San Mateo watershed in the south, the parks include ancient redwoods, historic landmarks, miles of trails, rocky shorelines, rare and endangered species, lush coastal wilderness and breathtaking vistas.

Each year, millions of people visit the Golden Gate National Parks to experience the nature, history and scenic beauty that truly define the character of the San Francisco Bay Area.

History:
Established in 1981, the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy is a cooperating association authorized by Congress to support and assist the National Park Service in research, interpretation and conservation programs.

The Conservancy's work is undertaken with generous contributions from individual, corporate and foundation donors, as well as income earned from operating park bookstores, merchandise and retail, publishing educational materials and providing interpretive tours. Since its inception in 1981, the Parks Conservancy has provided the National Park Service with nearly $80 million in aid and is recognized as one of the largest, most effective park partners in the country.
