The mission of the Haight Ashbury Food Program is to support the principle that freedom from hunger is a right not a privilege. We exist to provide meals, job training and referral services to those in need while fostering a sense of belonging and self worth for all involved. Finally, we are committed to sustaining a program based on compassion, respect and empowerment
Description:
There are two components to our agency - the community kitchen and dining room is used to prepare and serve a hot meal to approximately 300 people 4 days a week, 52 weeks a year. The population we serve includes the homeless, families with children, substance abusers, seniors, people with mental and physical disabilities, as well as recent arrivals to our country. We also provide an on-site professionally managed 3 month long job training program and job referral service to those seeking employment in the food industry.
