Junior Achievement's purpose is to educate and inspire young people to value free enterprise, business and economics in order to improve the quality of their lives. Working in partnership with Bay Area business, educator and foundation communities Junior Achievement is the premier independent provider of economics education in Northern California schools.
Description:
Junior Achievement is the nation's largest provider of economic education for young people. Since 1919, we have been bridging the gap between school and the world beyond by teaching our standardized curriculum in the classroom. This year, approximately 106,000 K-12 and after-school youth will receive financial literacy, economics and life skill curriculum delivered through the real-life experiences of more than 4,700 corporate and community based volunteers. In collaboration with the community, local businesses, and educators, Junior Achievement brings the real world to students, awakening them to their future potential. Our volunteers embody the spirit of Junior Achievement, enhancing the Junior Achievement program with real-life business experience while fostering a creative and interactive learning environment.
History:
JA programs and volunteers provide a powerful combination of academic knowledge and real-life experiences that have shaped thousands of young lives in the Bay Area and around the world. Founded in 1950, Junior Achievement of the Bay Area (JABA) delivers valuable business, economics, and workforce readiness programs to 19 counties across the Bay Area and Central Valley. In July 2008 JABA became Junior Achievement of Northern California (JA NorCal), to reflect our presence in the Central Valley and Eastern Sierra counties. JA NorCal offices are located in Walnut Creek, with 7 District Director offices working locally in San Francisco, Oakland, East Bay, Fresno, Central Valley, San Mateo, Napa & Solano, Redwood Empire, East and West Contra Costa County, Marin, and the Tri-City Tri-Valley areas.
