The Marine Mammal Center works toward the survival of marine mammals and the conservation of their habitat through rescue and treatment of ill or injured animals, through scientific inquiry and through education programs.
Description:
Volunteers can get involved in a variety of programs such as animal care, working on either day or night crews tending to the needs of the animals in order to rehabilitate them to get them back to their ocean homes. Education programs such as docent or volunteer instructor, retail sales at PIER 39, the Stranding Department, rescue and release of the animals as well as being a transport driver.
History:
Formed in 1975, the main hospital is in the Marin Headlands in Sausalito and we have Field Operations in Monterey Bay, San Luis Obispo and Fort Bragg. We also have a retail store and Interpretive Center at PIER 39.
