The mission of The Pachamama Alliance is: to preserve the Earth's tropical rain forests by empowering the indigenous people who are its natural custodians and to contribute to the creation of a new global vision of equity and sustainability for all.

Description:
We are a partnership between the people of the modern world and the Achuar, an indigenous tribe in Ecuador and Peru. We have an office in San Francisco, California and a sister office in Quito, Ecuador called Fundacion Pachamama. We primarily fund the direct work in Ecuador with the Achuar. We also sponsor trips to Ecuador and into the rainforest.

We created the Awakening the Dreamer, Changing the Dream Initiative as an expression of the second part of our mission which is based around a consciousness raising workshop, the Symposium. The mission of the Symposium is to bring forth an environmentally sustainable, spiritually fulfilling and socially just human presence on the planet as the guiding principle of our times.

We seek to share the Awakening the Dreamer, Changing the Dream message as far and wide as possible. This involves training and supporting volunteers all over the world to present, host and produce the Symposium and grow their own communities to continue to sustainably share the experience of the Symposium. We also seek to create partnerships with other organizations who can also benefit from utilizing the Symposium as a tool to raise consciousness, educate their constituency and expand their work through community outreach.

History:
The Pachamamama Alliance was born over 10 years ago in response to a request from the Achuar people of the Amazon region of Ecuador. They were seeking a partnership with people from the modern world who could aid them in protecting the rainforest and their way of life. Bill and Lynne Twist responded to this call and founded the Alliance. Out of this partnership, we have come to recognize that indigenous insight can make a critical contribution in helping us address the complex issues we face in our modern world.
