The mission of the San Francisco Botanical Garden Society is to create a community to actively support the Garden with fundraising, promotion, and advocacy, and to provide outstanding botanical, horticultural, and environmental education opportunities for people of all ages.

Description:
The San Francisco Botanical Garden is a unit of the SF Recreation& Park Dept. and is located on 55 acres in Golden Gate Park. 7,500 kinds of plants are displayed in a series of geographic and specially themed gardens. The San Francisco Botanical Garden Society offers free tours of the gardens, plant sales, adult and children's classes, and volunteer and internship opportunities.

History:
The San Francisco Botanical Garden Society celebrated its 50th Anniversary in 2005 and continues its mission to support the San Francisco Botanical Garden and to provide plant-related education opportunities for people of all ages. The Society began in 1955 as a 100% volunteer-based organization. The Society now has a paid staff, but relies on a volunteer workforce of over 600.

Directions:

The San Francisco Botanical Garden is located just inside the 9th Avenue and Lincoln Way entrance to Golden Gate Park. Once you've entered the park at 9th Avenue, you'll be on Marin Luther King Jr. Dr. Walk about 100 yards and you'll see the main gate to the Arboretum on your left. There is another entrance to the Botanical Garden further along Martin Luther King Jr. Dr., located diagonally across from the Japanese Tea Garden.
