Support for Families of Children with Disabilities is a parent-run, San Francisco based non-profit organization. Our purpose is to ensure that families of children with any kind of disability or special health care need have the knowledge and assistance needed to make informed choices which support their child's health, education and development.
Description:
Support for Families offers a wide range of information, education and peer support services, all free of charge, to thousands of families each year. Our services are also available to professionals who work with children with disabilities. Services include a drop-in center and phone line, 14 support groups, a resource library, parent mentor training and matching, workshops and clinics, community education and outreach, short-term counseling, an assistive technology resource center and recreational and social events for families.
History:
Support for Families was founded by parents in 1982. Over the years, we have grown, expanded services, and joined in collaborations with agencies and service providers in San Francisco and throughout California to improve the services and systems that affect families of children with disabilities and special health care needs.
