The Taproot Foundation is a volunteer organization that provides local nonprofits with grants of consistent, high-quality professional services. Taproot Foundation's mission is to strengthen nonprofits by engaging business professionals in service.

Description:
The Taproot Foundation is redefining volunteering by combining the efficiencies of traditional volunteer matching services with the quality management practices of leading business consulting firms. The result is the ability to assign volunteers to the most appropriate projects based on their skills and to ensure the timely delivery of quality professional services. The Taproot Foundation builds teams of marketing and creative services professionals, human resources professionals, and information technology professionals to work on projects for local nonprofits. Taproot Foundation engages professionals in volunteer projects - called Service Grants - to provide capacity building services in the areas of Marketing, Human Resources and Information Technology to local nonprofit organizations in the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City Area.
Taproot lets volunteers "give what you know" so that they can make the strongest impact on local communities while networking and growing professionally.

History:
Aaron Hurst founded Taproot Foundation 40 years after his grandfather, Joseph E. Slater, wrote the original blueprint for the Peace Corps. Inspired by his grandfather and the Peace Corps' ethic that seemingly intransigent boundaries can be crossed when people work together as peers, Aaron created Taproot Foundation to connect this country's millions of business professionals with nonprofits who need their talents and experience.

Founded in 2001, Taproot Foundation has worked with over 150 nonprofit organizations to date in the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City Area. Over 2,000 business professionals have applied to volunteer their skills on Taproot Foundation Service Grant Projects, delivering over $8 million worth of professional services to local nonprofit organizations.
