
The mission of The Arc of San Francisco is to serve people with developmental disabilities, individuals with similar needs, and their families, by providing access to a full range of services that advance self-determination, dignity and quality of life.
Description:
The Arc serves over 550 adults with autism, down syndrome, cerebral palsy and intellectual/cognitive disabilities. Providing services that include job training and placement, residential living supports, community access training, leisure and recreation for seniors and various social activities and outings.
History:
The Arc of San Francisco was founded in 1951 by parents who were dissatisfied with the lack of support available to families with children with developmental disabilities. At that time, the only services the government provided was in the state's eight developmental centers. Today, more than 190,000 Californians with developmental disabilities are served in the community.
