WiRED International is a non-profit organization devoted to providing medical and healthcare information, education, and communication resources to communities in developing and post-conflict regions. WiRED's mission is to ensure equal access to information that saves lives.

Description:
WiRED International has provided a network of community health information centers and medical information centers stretching across 11 countries and four continents and has brought hope through awareness and information. By providing computers, medical e-libraries, and Internet access to even the most remote villages, WiRED has provided hundreds of thousands of health professionals and grassroots communities with desperately-needed, up-to-date medical information. Despite formidable odds, we're seeing success in areas of the world where the sword is the usual method of resolution.

History:
WiRED International was founded by Dr. Gary Selnow. While he was a visiting professor at the University of Zagreb in Croatia, he witnessed the devastation that the war inflicted on the region's children who were both without educational supplies and cut off from the experience of observing people working together in harmony. The people's fascination with the technology he was using gave him the idea that the Internet could help end their isolation, enhance their education, teach them about cooperation, and diffuse ethnic tensions in their communities. WiRED has now expanded to the broader global community and focuses on healthcare education and information.
