Our mission is to improve health by providing free, respectful, quality care for women, by women. We believe that preventive, educational care is essential to lifelong health and is best achieved in a safe, welcoming environment that encourages women to seek the care they need. The Women's Community Clinic is a pro-choice and client-centered clinic.
Description:
All of our services are always free. We provide sexual and reproductive health care. We do not provide primary care or prenatal care. Our most frequently used services include screening for sexually transmitted infections, routine annual exams, birth control consultations, and diagnosis and treatment of common gynecological concerns. We see girls and women age 12 and up, from first pelvic exam to post-menopause. We also offer complementary health (acupuncture), HIV testing, Street Outreach and a database of referrals to other agencies.
History:
The Women’s Community Clinic has always run on the strength, commitment, and passion of our volunteers. The Clinic carries on the long tradition of providing free health care for women, by women, while designing innovative ways to meet the needs of our clients. Since opening in 1999, with a shoestring budget and handful of volunteers, we have grown to an annual budget of $1.5 million, 17 staff members, and over 100 volunteer health workers and clinicians. Despite our growth, we continue to provide each woman with the information and support she needs to make decisions about her own health — now to more than 3,500 women every year. And we still do it all for free. The Women’s Community Clinic is a project of the Tides Center. For more information, please visit our website: http://www.womenscommunityclinic.org/

The WCC provides reproductive healthcare to underinsured or non-insured women ages 12 and up. In addition to the services we provide we offer referrals for basic preventitive needs such as mammograms. It is non-judgemental and our goal is to meet the needs best suited for our individual clients. It is wonderful to work in a place where mostly everyone volunteers, including the clinicians. It feels good to work with people that are there because they want to be there, not because they have to be. posted by netgurlie2002 on May 2, 2006 |
