Overall Experience
Not only does Project Open Hand provide invaluable "nutrition with compassion" for well over 3,000 people who have limited social services available to them and are in need of comfort; POH also takes good care of their hundreds of volunteers who are integral to providing these services.
I was fortunate to meet many of these volunteers at Project Open Hand's annual volunteer appreciation party. The theme this year was a Sock Hop. What fun!
I volunteered to help serve food (mini burgers, mini grilled cheese with tomato soup cups and lots of other goodies) while other event volunteers served rootbeer floats - true soda-jerk fashion, adult bevies and/or engaged the crowd in good Fifties style fun.
I will absolutely support this event again. Meanwhile I'm working on getting a crew of volunteers together from my place of work to support Project Open Hand's mission of providing sustenance coupled with compassion and respect. |
