Our mission statement reads: The San Mateo Adult School believes the search for knowledge, understanding and personal growth is Lifelong. To this end, we provide student-centered continuing education to people of all ages and backgrounds.
Description:
The Adult School serves 12,000 adults/year in free or low-cost classes in the following areas: English as a Second Language, Skill development for handicapped adults, Education programs for older adults in care facilities, Short term vocational training, High School Diploma and GED, Basic skills development, Citizenship, Parenting enrichment and Fee-based classes developed in response to community requests.
History:
The San Mateo Adult School has been serving the city and county of San Mateo since 1916 when "Americanization" classes were offered to recent immigrants. Currently the Adult School serves adults in the communities of San Mateo, Foster City, Burlingame, Hillsborough, Millbrae and San Bruno.
