Improving reading and writing skills and building self-esteem is the essence of our program. Project READ - Redwood City has three fundamental beliefs. These three precepts are inseparable form the spirit and soul of Project READ and guide the staff, tutors and learners on a daily basis:
- Given and chance, we All have the desire to learn. 2. Learning is an exciting and fun process. 3. Learning is a two-way street. Students and tutors learn from each other - they are learning partners. Get involved today! The rewards are immeasurable, both for you and for the community.

Project READ's intergenerational student-centered approach has resulted in a successful program serving the literacy needs of adults, youth and families in our community. Spirited volunteers selflessly dedicate their time to tutor individuals who are striving to improve their reading, writing and critical thinking skills. The desire to help someone develop the gift of reading is all you need to become a tutor We'll supply the rest.
History:
Project READ is about people helping people. Redwood City's Project READ was established in 1987 as a free, vounteer-based literacy program. Since our inception, over 3,700 youth, adults and families have improved their reading and writing skills. We have accomplished this task by recruiting and training over 3,200 volunteers.
