Boys and Girls Clubs of the Peninsula
It is our mission.... to guide and inspire the youth of our community to develop the attitudes and life skills they need to achieve their potential.
Description:
The Boys and Girls Clubs of the Peninsula (BGCP) is a youth development organization serving the communities of Redwood City, East Palo Alto and East Menlo Park. It is a place where thousands of youth ages 6-18 years old are welcomed every day during the vulnerable after school hours. At each of our eight sites, a team of development professionals and volunteers provide a broad range of programs focused on: Academics, Science and Technology, Social Education, Life Skills, Athletics and Visual and Performing Arts.
Many of these programs are offered in partnership with local schools and other community organizations. The Club's annual budget of $4.8 million is made possible largely by foundation grants, corporate support and individual contributions.
History:
Founded in 1958, the club is now the largest youth development organization on the San Francisco Peninsula.
Our membership is comprised of over 3,000 youth. We have a very diverse membership, with a large population of Latino, Pacific Islander and African Americans. Members range in age from 6-18 years old and the membership fee is only $25 for the academic year, $50 for the summer. However, a lot of our members attend the club through scholarships.
We offer our programs and services at eight sites, 3 clubhouses and 5 school based sites.
1.McNeil Family clubhouse is located in East Menlo Park
2.Moldaw Zaffaroni Clubhouse is located in East Palo Alto
3.Mervin G. Morris clubhouse is locate in Redwood City.
Our school based sites operate a program called the Center for a New Generation (CNG). CNG is a highly academic structured after-school specialty program. The program offers a variety of programs designed to enhance the education provided by the schools. Programming consists of literacy and math instruction, homework assistance, high school prep, and enrichment activities. CNG helps the children meet and often times exceed their standard grade level, improves their chances of graduating from high school, and exposes them to artistic and cultural diversity outside of their community.
