San Francisco Airport Museums

To collect, preserve and interpret artifacts and literary material related to the history of commercial aviation in North America and the Pacific region as it relates to SFO, and the history of civil and military aviation regarding the aircraft development in North America, Europe and Asia.

Description:
The success of the Aviation Library and Museum relies largely on the ability of volunteers to serve the Airport visitor. The Volunteer Program provides the following services to the public.

Information Services: Volunteers at the information desks are most often the first contact that the visitors have with the library and museum. Volunteers will be prepared to meet and welcome a diverse public and respond to their needs and interests. These "meeting and greeting" duties enhance the visitors' experience and assist in their knowledge and understanding of objects on exhibition, the ideas they represent, and the resources that are available to them within the library collections.

History:
The San Francisco Airport Commission operates the San Francisco Airport Commission Aviation Library and Louis A. Turpen Aviation Museum, which opened in December 2000 within the new International Terminal.
