The Nightline provides free telephone emotional support, crisis counseling and basic information for anyone with HIV or Hepatitis C related concerns. We answer calls every night between the hours of 5pm and 5am, when most service agencies are closed.
Description:
Volunteers serve as emotional support and crisis intervention phone counselors. Qualifications include an ability to be a good listener with a sensitive, caring and non-judgmental attitude. Both HIV and HepC positive and negative persons of all sexual identifications, ethnicities, cultures and genders are encouraged to apply. Extensive training is provided with emphasis on developing counseling skills.
History:
Founded in 1989, the Nightline answers approximately 11,000 calls a year, throughout the United States, from persons representing all social, political, economic and personal backgrounds.
