Marin Services for Women (MSW) is committed to advancing community health by providing chemical dependency recovery services for women and their families. MSW's philosophy links recovery from addiction with relational, social and economic empowerment. We are dedicated to meeting the community's need to understand the nature, treatment and prevention of chemical dependency.
Description:
Marin Services for Women (MSW) is a licensed, non-profit corporation that provides a full continuum of chemical dependency recovery programs for low-income women. MSW's empowerment model is grounded in shared values of respect, compassion, accountability and mutual support that informs all aspects of our programs. Our trauma-specific treatment approach is empowerment based, culturally responsive and incorporates an understanding of women's identity development and woman-specific addiction and recovery processes. As the leading service provider for pregnant and parenting women, our programs completely support the needs of pregnant mothers and children under the age of six. MSW's full continuum of care, which includes residential treatment, day-time outpatient treatment, evening outpatient treatment, continuing care and transitional housing, enables us to provide cost-effective, individualized treatment experiences by allowing for the clients' participation in one or more levels of care as she progresses through treatment. MSW also provides a child development center and family programs to promote the education, healing and recovery of the entire family. Marin Services for Women graduates a remarkable 70% of clients who enter our programs.
History:
Since 1978, MSW has been a leader in advancing gender-specific recovery services in Marin County and is regarded as a premier agency in our field. According to the Marin County Department of Health and Human Services, Alcohol and Drug Programs, MSW has the highest completion rate of any substance abuse treatment program in the county. Their Annual Report states, “Several of our agencies, (for one), Marin Services for Women … (has) an extraordinary level of expertise in delivering relevant women’s services that effectively engage and retain women in treatment.” MSW gained international recognition when our residential recovery program was included in the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime report, “Substance Abuse Treatment and Care for Women: Case Studies and Lessons Learned” (Vienna, 2004). One of only two U.S. recovery programs cited for excellence in the study, the report states that “the experience at MSW validates research indicating the superior efficacy of women-only programs, staffed by women.”
