Kid Serve conducts mosaic mural residencies in under-served schools and after school programs of San Francisco and Oakland. Our projects integrate curriculum, social values, creativity and community service for young people. Youth create public art on the outside of their schools, retaining walls and buildings, transforming their neighborhoods.

Description:
Kid Serve conducts 7-8 free mosaic mural residencies in Bay Area schools and after-school programs. Projects last 8 - 14 weeks. An artist comes to class twice a week and guides students through the process of researching, designing and actually creating a mural in their community.
The Kid Serve mosaic murals at 19th & Irving Streets (in the Sunset District), on Geary Blvd (near Japantown) and on Cesar Chavez Blvd (near Harrison St) are seen by thousands of commuters every day. All of the 50 Kid Serve murals are outside and visible to their communities.

History:
Since April 1999, Josef Norris and Kid Serve have facilitated over 50 service learning projects in Bay Area schools and after-school programs, serving more than 2000 students. Kid Serve began as a project of Linking San Francisco under the fiscal umbrella of the Every Child Can Learn Foundation. In 2005 they received their non-profit status.
